This Flighter appears to have been treated to impart a smoke gray finish to the cap and lower portion of the barrel. A portion of the barrel was then coated with a matte gray material. Here is a close-up of the bottom end of that barrel, and the familiar concave depression that shows this model started out as a stainless steel Flighter.
