Here are early brass prototype desk sets for the Premier series, in 1-pen and 2-pen versions.
Notice that the pen holders are made of black laquer unlike the production version which had holders made of the same goldplated brass and laquer if the Athenes pattern, just like the accompanying pen.
Closer inspection shows that even the Premier faceted ring was duplicated on the magnetic base. These faceted base was retained in the production version desk sets.
