Prototype 65 - Gold filled FP with fish scale pattern

Created 12-31-2011

When I first got a quick glance at this pen at arms' length, I thought it was just a common Grain d'Orge or barleycorn model.  But then at closer inspection it proved to be very different, with a pattern that to me resembles fish scales.

And for comparison, here is a Grain d'Orge pattern.

Take a closer look at this fish scale pattern.

What is really curious is the inscription around the cap band.  The specification of "1/13 14K GOLD FILLED" is unusual in the fractional part.  The earliest vermeil grid 75s had a fractional part of 1/20 so 1/13 seems an odd fraction to me.

Another interesting item seen above is the inscription of the Parker arrow/halo logo that is directly on the fish scale pattern above the 'IN' of "MADE IN U.S.A" inscription.  It would be more common to have this logo on the cap band itself, not to mention simpler to inscribe.  As you can see, there was sufficient room to accommodate the logo in the cap band.

As you can see the tassies on this pen are flat.
